SolrCloud Deep Dive, Turning Search Upside Down & Solr/ Elasticsearch Comparison
Details
We're happy to announce the first meeting of this new user group, hosted in Bloomberg's amazing European headquarters. Shalin Mangar, Lucene/Solr committer, will be our first speaker, plus we'll have news on new and upcoming features, a Q&A session with committers and more! Please spread the word.
SolrCloud Deep Dive - This session will help you understand the internal architecture of SolrCloud and how it handles querying, indexing and replication. We will also analyze SolrCloud's design in terms of the CAP theorem and discuss what happens when things go wrong. Shalin Shekhar Mangar (https://twitter.com/shalinmangar) is an Apache Lucene/Solr committer since 2008 as well as a member of the Lucene/Solr project management committee. He worked at AOL for five years on vertical search, content management systems, social/community platforms, and anti-spam systems as well as AOL WebMail’s Inbox Search system, which uses a highly customized version of Apache Solr to service tens of millions of users and more than a billion index/search operations a day. He currently works at Lucidworks, Inc. on Apache Solr and Lucidworks Search mostly on the SolrCloud side of things.
Turning Search Upside Down - Charlie Hull (https://twitter.com/FlaxSearch) & Alan Woodward (https://twitter.com/romseygeek) of Flax (http://www.flax.co.uk) will be talking about building high-performance stored query systems for media monitoring based on Lucene/Solr and Flax's Luwak library, including how we replaced an existing system based on Autonomy IDOL and Verity for a large Scandinavian media monitoring company.
Solr vs Elasticsearch Performance Comparison - Flax will also be presenting some results from a recent comparative study of the indexing and searching performance of these two leading open source engines - the results may surprise you!
