The Big Data London (http://www.bigdataldn.com/) conference have offered to host our Meetup in November. You'll need to register for the event to gain access to the Meetup which is in Seminar Room 3. There are seminars featuring Solr during the main event (http://bigdataldn.com/seminar-schedule/) at 15.50 (me!) and 16.30 (Elsevier) so hope to see you there.
** PLEASE NOTE the event will start at 7pm sharp with talks and end at 830pm - don't be late! ** We'll be there from 6.30 for pizza and drinks.
Our first talk will be from Solr committer Upayavira (http://www.odoko.co.uk/about-us/) on 'Deploying Solr inside Docker - pitfalls, tricks and code' - he'll demonstrate setting up Solr using Docker (https://www.docker.com/) and a tool called Rancher that makes Docker ridiculously easy to use. He'll explain some of the issues he hit, how he overcame them, and share some code to do things like create Zookeeper chroots, upload configs, create collections etc., all in a Dockeresque way. He'll give a live demo starting with nothing at all, ending up with 3 Zookeeper and 3 Solr nodes running, with collections created and documents indexed!
Our second talk is from Will Moy & Mevan Babakar of FullFact on Automated factchecking with Solr. Full Fact is the UK's independent factchecking organisation. This summer they published a roadmap for making factchecking dramatically more effective with technology we have now. They will be talking about Hawk, their new monitoring and claim recognition engine. Built on Solr, it monitors public debate and spots claims they have previously factchecked. They'll talk about the strengths and weaknesses so far and what's next on the roadmap. Will Moy is Director of Full Fact and Mevan Babakar is Digital Products & Supporter Communications Manager.
Elsevier have very kindly offered to sponsor pizza & drinks.
