**CANCELLED** March Meetup with Eric Pugh & Nate Day

Details
CANCELLED
Very sorry to say tonight's event is cancelled as our speakers have had to fly home at short notice due to the travel ban announced last night. We'll look into a remote presentation or repeating the talks at a future event. Apologies for the short notice but events are somewhat out of our control at this point. Best wishes to you all,
Charlie
Placeholder for the next Meetup - Eric Pugh, co-author of the very first book on Solr is in town. [Note that unfortunately we cancelled our Solr training on Thursday & Friday but we're still running the Meetup!]
Eric will talk about "Streaming Expressions in Solr Revolutionizes How You Think About Your Data". For too long our view of a “query” was constrained by the handcuffs of a request and response cycle over HTTP. Solr’s Streaming Expressions completely revamps that by letting us stream process arbitrary amounts of data. This quick primer will open your eyes to a revolutionary capability!
We're also pleased to say OSC's Data Science lead, Nate Day, will be talking about "Using statistics to efficiently bootstrap your collection of human judgements". Human judgements are a great tool for testing the relevance of your search engine. But when you start building your collection of judgments, it is unknown how many queries you need will need to properly evaluate changes to the system. Statistics can help you reason with this uncertainty. This talk outlines a cycle of hypothesis testing followed by power testing, that will maximize the knowledge gained from each search experiment and ensure you are not wasting resources.
Thanks to the BBC for the kind offer to host! Please go to reception and you will be escorted to the 7th floor. Please also note that you will not be allowed to take large bags into the building and that you may be searched on entry.
