 Real-Time Analytics Horror Stories Meetup

Details

Halloween is the time when the veil between production and outages is thinnest. Where data tables may get munged beyond all recognition or dropped completely.
Come hear about real-world real-time analytics horror stories, and learn what you can do to slay your own daemons and zombie processes. A hair-raising time will be had by all!
This session will be held by Peter Corless and Minesh Patel

Timing:
11:00 am PDT
02:00 PM ET

Peter Corless is the Director of Product Marketing at StarTree. He’s also held stints at other fast database providers, including ScyllaDB and Aerospike. In ancient days he also worked at Cisco Systems.

Minesh Patel is the Head of Enterprise at StarTree. A seasoned enterprise software professional with years of customer-facing experience

The rules:

  • Stories should focus on real-time analytics, though they don't need to be specifically about Apache Pinot or StarTree. For example, they could be about other databases that failed spectacularly, or related technologies like data streaming, stream processing, observability tools, etc.
  • It's all to share disaster stories and lessons learned. You can provide both the horror story, as well as the "light at the end of the tunnel." ["Whew!"]
  • These should be "safe" stories, now-closed issues, things from the past, you can share. Please do not share anything that is a current issue or a proprietary/confidential issue.
  • The names of any organizations and individuals will be kept anonymous. Please do not share anything that could put any organization or individual at risk with their boss.
  • Make it funny if possible, playing up the Halloween/horror story theme.
  • No "bad blood." We're not here to grind axes against former employers, or make enemies with competitors.
  • This is all to be presented to the public in the future. We can keep your name private, or we can credit you if you wish
  • An example NoSQL House of Horrors. Now it's time to torch our own neck of the woods.
