After the very successful first Apache Meetup NL in Arnhem last April 26th (http://apachemeetup-nl-eorg.eventbrite.com/) we're happy to announce a full day Apache Rave Hackathon meetup, to be held in Utrecht on Wednesday June 13th.
Apache Rave (http://rave.apache.org) is a very exciting new Apache project providing a web and social mashup engine to host and serve OpenSocial Gadgets, W3C Widgets and other pluggable social network services and features in a comprehensive and out-of-the-box Java based solution.
Rave builds upon and bridges many other open-source projects like Apache Shindig (http://shindig.apache.org) and Apache Wookie (http://incubator.apache.org/wookie), and has a thriving community of developers, users and supporters from many different organizations and other projects.
Actively involved in and initiators of Apache Rave are contributers and committers from organizations like SURFnet, The MITRE Coorporation, Pervasive Technology Institute Indiana University, Hippo B.V., University of Bolton, OSS Watch, and this community and support is growing rapidly!
In the Netherlands the University of Groningen is already using Apache Rave for building their next personalized University Portal, and alignment and collaboration with other exiting projects like the European ROLE project (http://www.role-project.eu/) and EDUKAPP (http://code.google.com/p/edukapp/) is in the works.
The Apache Rave Hackathon meetup on June 13th is open and free to all of the Apache community and especially the Apache Rave community, supporters, developers and committers. You do need to register for the event though!
As a Hackathon there is no predefined agenda upfront but up to the participants to decide what to discuss, present and collaborate on during the day. Of course we do expect presentations and demonstrations of current projects and implementations using or related to Rave!
If you want to be brought up-to-speed on the latest developments, exciting new or planned features, the Rave Roadmap, or simply meet with several Rave committers and other community members in the flesh, register and sign up for free for this Hackathon!
And if you have suggestions and ideas for the program you can discuss this here at the meetup site right away.
This Apache Meetup event is generously hosted and sponsored by SURFnet, and includes free lunch for those who register before June 8th.
The SURFnet Office is easily reachable as located right next to the Utrecht train station, and also is just 30 minutes drive from Schiphol Airport by car. Directions can be found here (http://www.surfnet.nl/en/organisatie/Pages/routebeschrijving.aspx).
