Tall Timbers Interpretive Hike
Details
Join Tall Timbers' biologists on a two-mile long Tall Timbers Interpretive Trail. We will be stopping a five-points along the way that discuss the ecology of the region as well as the research the folks at Tall Timbers are doing on controlled burns, gopher tortoises, Red-cockaded woodpeckers, Bobwhite quail, and a bit of the history of Tall Timbers. We'll have plenty of time for discussion and answer your questions. To help you identify and remember what you see, you can follow the trail on your phone using Avenza or All-Trails, use Merlin for identifying birds, and use Seek for identifying plants.
We will meet on Saturday morning October 25th at 9:00 A.M. Eastern outside Tall Timbers' new Perkins Educational Center, 13093 Henry Beadel Dr, Tallahassee, FL 32312. Here is a pin on Google Maps of the meeting spot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iR1TZ4ter89gX9SR8?g_st=ipc.
Please bring plenty of water and binoculars if you have them. Tall Timbers may be able to provide a few pairs as well. Waterproof shoes such as hiking boots and waterproof pants are recommended as it can be a little bit damp in the morning. A good portion of the trail is in direct sun so please wear hats and sunscreen.
Check this meetup site for any last minute announcements before starting out. Contact: Kent Wimmer, (850) 528-5261, or klwimmer2@gmail.com. Howard Pardue will be co-leading this activity.
