“The Aucilla Sinks are by far the most fascinating segment of the Florida Trail.” [https://floridahikes.com/florida-trail-aucilla-sinks. ](https://floridahikes.com/florida-trail-aucilla-sinks.) It is also the only section of the FNST confirmed to be in use as early as 14,200 to 14,550 years ago based on radiocarbon dating.

This part of the Florida Trail follows the Aucilla River past a wonderland of sinkholes and caverns waiting to be explored. The 4.5-mile section starts at Goose Pasture Road then follows its route under and above ground. This will be a Moderate hike at about 3 mph. The trail is very well-groomed, but there are still roots and rocks underfoot. Estimated end time 2:30pm.

We will meet at 9:30am at the trailhead off Goose Pasture Road (see map). The road is well-maintained, but the signage is not. However, there is the large display kiosk at the starting trailhead and adequate parking. There is also parking at the south end of the trail. We will arrange shuttles to bring most of the cars to the end point before the hike starts.

Wear good hiking shoes, bring plenty of water (the sinks are not easy to access), sunscreen and bug repellant as necessary. The weather is cool enough that bugs are not generally present, and the trail is under trees the entire way. Bring snacks and lunch; we will stop at the primitive campsite on the trail. Please no dogs or children.

Groups size limit has been set to 15, so there may be a waiting list. For more information best to phone or text the hike co-leader, Camilla Barry, 415-322-8394, in addition to RSVPing on Meetup.
