Memorial Day Hike in Valley Forge

Details

Join us for an easy to moderate 5 mile hike in Valley Forge National Historical Park. We will stop briefly at points of interest including Washington’s Headquarters, the dilapidated stone building that once housed a water bottling plant at a natural spring (the water is still flowing!), trees felled by beavers along Valley Creek Trail, and the historic Knox Covered Bridge.

The pace will be a little slower than on the weekly Tuesday and Wednesday AMC hikes in Valley Forge, so this could be a good opportunity for people who aren’t quite ready for those hikes (including friends and relatives of the weekly hikers). It will require enough stamina to hike 5 miles mainly on unpaved trails, including hills with elevation gain totaling about 600’. We will stop periodically, such as at hilltops if some go up faster than others, to keep the group together. Children are welcome provided they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Dogs are not permitted on this hike.

Meet in the Artillery Park parking lot, at the end near the restrooms, promptly at 9:30.

Bring water, clothing appropriate for the weather (layers work well), sturdy footwear (hiking shoes or boots work well), and a smile.
Please sign up on Meetup as this allows easy communication and lets us know to expect you. If the hike is canceled, such as due to weather, we plan to announce this on Meetup at least two hours in advance. The next Sunday is a possible rain date.

AMC is a non-profit organization and the hike leaders are volunteers. All participants will need to sign the AMC liability release agreement just prior to the hike (if you want to review it in advance, go to https://www.outdoors.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Volunteer-Led-Activity-Release-21.pdf). Children under age 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will need to sign the agreement for them.
