This Winter Skills Workshop is your opportunity to build the knowledge and confidence that make cold-weather backpacking not just possible—but empowering. You’ll learn how to stay warm when temperatures drop, manage moisture in snow and rain, avoid cold-related injuries, navigate frozen landscapes, and develop the mental resilience that keeps adventurers moving forward in every great wilderness story.

We won’t be reenacting Alive or The Grey, but we will step into the same world of snow, cold, and shifting weather—only with skilled, supportive leaders at your side. This is a chance to challenge yourself in a controlled, encouraging environment where safety, learning, and camaraderie come first.

Designed for backpackers with three-season experience, this immersive weekend helps you extend your adventures into winter with confidence. Our basecamp will be in a state park, within sight of our vehicles and a short walk to a bathroom—giving us a safe, accessible starting point as we practice real winter techniques.

Participants should bring their regular three-season gear along with plenty of warm layers for standing around camp and extra bedding—think blankets, comforters, whatever helps you feel cozy and comfortable overnight. Short instructional hikes will be woven throughout the weekend so you can apply skills in real time.

This workshop is about building strength, self-reliance, and a sense of adventure—in a supportive community - so you can expand what you’re capable of in the outdoors.
