Philly Black History Month Hike - 8 - 10 miles
Details
Join us for a walk through many Philly neighborhoods as we celebrate Black History Month, highlighting African American cultural and historical sights in the city. We will meet at Lloyd Hall on Boathouse Row and walk through Fairmount, Old City, Queens Village, and several other city neighborhoods, including a stop at an acclaimed black owned bakery known for outstanding and unique cupcakes and their banana pudding. We will stop at locations of interest to briefly discuss the historical and cultural significance of each. Walk will be at a moderate pace and restrooms are available at the start of the hike as well as an additional stop during the hike.
Dress in layers for the weather; steady rain/snow or hazardous driving cancels. Bring along snacks and water as needed - we will not take a formal lunch break but will incorporate a brief snack stop along the way.
We will meet at Lloyd Hall along Boathouse Row in Philly. There is free street parking available on Sedgley Drive which intersects Kelly Drive at Lloyd Hall. There are also paid lots in the vicinity if you prefer.
