AMC 150 on the Move: The Relay, the Celebrations and the Stories Behind Them

How do you celebrate 150 years of adventure, conservation and community? By carrying an AMC pennant from Virginia to Maine, one hike, bike ride, paddle, climb, and gathering at a time. Join Mark Zakutansky, AMC’s Director of Conservation Policy Engagement, for a visual tour of the AMC 150 Outdoor Relay as its journey approaches the finish line. Hear the stories behind some of its wildest, most creative and most memorable moments, from “Steps to the Hill” in Washington, D.C., and rugged New England bikepacking to river paddling, rock climbing, hut-to-hut traverses and a celebration atop Mount Washington. We will revisit the relay’s Lehigh Valley stop at Illick’s Mill, visit celebrations at Mohican, Highland Center, Pinkham Notch and beyond, and recognize the volunteers who connected chapters, camps, lodges and communities along the way.

The program will also offer a lively roundup of AMC’s other 150th anniversary activities, including community stories, signature events, volunteer recognition and the celebrations carrying AMC into its next 150 years.

Information on upcoming outdoor events will be available. Everyone is welcome. Reservations are required for the Zoom presentation.
