Elmhurst is a diverse neighborhood in Queens, with recent immigrants from over 100 countries around the world, and personnel in the neighborhood hospital speak as many languages. As we walk through Little India, Thailand and Nepal we visit many hidden treasures including a stunning Hindu temple, and a Jain temple with elaborately adorned temples inside with large shrines carved of crystal stones and gemstones. A Thai Buddhist temple has a huge reclining Buddha as well as a stunning Emerald one. We can also visit a couple of galleries along the way. We end the day in Jackson Heights, near a great Chinese bakery and Expresso 77, with its famous special flavor lattes. There will be access to multiple subway lines at Roosevelt Avenue at the end.

We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4 miles, stopping at places of interest. We make a brief lunch stop in a park, but you may stop by the food court in the Queens Mall before we meet. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs).

Precipitation, as well as potentially unsafe ground conditions from ice or snow, or even questionable forecast may cancel, postpone or modify; check website for latest updates. We meet at 12:15 PM at the Queens Center entrance at 90-15 Queens Boulevard near 59th Avenue. Take the R train to Woodhaven Boulevard and exit at 59th Ave. at the north side of Queens Boulevard to get to the Queens Center entrance on Queens Boulevard. Please arrive a bit early, if you wish to explore the large mall, use the restrooms or eat something at the Food Court.

You have an option of signing a paper liability waiver at the meeting place, but encouraged to do so online on the AMC website by clicking on link below:
