2nd Applied AI Meetup Innsbruck

Details

AI Folks! We welcome you to our second Applied AI meetup in Innsbruck, this time at "das Wundervoll". Like last time, we will have three short talks from people working with AI who will present the problem they solve with it and showcase their applications. You will have the chance to get hands-on experience and there will be time to network, discuss and ask questions. We will provide food and drinks. The pre-requirement for participating is to be registered at the Meetup group and event.

Agenda
6 pm // open door & showcase stations
6:45 pm // welcome

7 pm // talk 1: OpenAI Gym for Real-World Applications by Catherine Laflamme, Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH

Catherine will give you a brief introduction to Reinforcement Learning, in particular to what differentiates it from the more common approaches of supervised or unsupervised learning. She will then present the tool “OpenAI Gym”, including examples of how it can be used with the open source “environments”. Lastly, she will show you how to integrate your own simulation model as an environment in your own reinforcement learning framework.

7:10 pm // talk 2: Mighty Transformers, BERT in Action by Sebastian Stabinger, DeepOpinion.ai

In the last year, transformers and BERT have become important tools for the natural language processing community. Sebastian will give a short glimpse into the inner workings of both architectures and will showcase practical problems that can be solved using BERT.

7:20 pm // talk 3: Capsule Networks by David Peer, University of Innsbruck

Geoffrey Hinton states that "the pooling operation used in convolutional neural networks is a big mistake and the fact that it works so well is a disaster". David describes why this pooling operator is a disaster and how capsules could solve this problem. He also explains how the commonly used "routing-by-agreement" algorithm connects capsules of different layers and introduces a novel routing algorithm developed at the University of Innsbruck.

7:30 pm // food, networking & showcase stations
9 pm // end

Location: das Wundervoll, Pembaurstraße 14.
Time: 29.05.2019, 6 - 9 pm
Entrance: free
Sponsors: Kjero, DeepOpinion, Swarm Analytics, Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH

We are looking forward to meeting you!
