Details

I’d like to give a brief, high level overview of some concepts from very different worlds that I’ve been seeing as rather inter-connectable.

We will take a very casual, low-stakes, unintimidating stroll through the fields of algebraic topology and machine learning to explore what is meant by the concept of desiring machines; we will cover:

  • some ideas from Gilles Deleuze/Felix Guatari, Alain Badiou, Hegel, and Watsuji Tetsurō
  • what persistent homology means, and why it’s useful
  • what machine learning is, and how it ties into all this
  • a principle that links art, beauty, curiosity, and remembering what matters

Don’t worry I will make sure to use plenty of pictures!
