Ready to explore how automation and smart scaling can make cloud infrastructure easier, faster, and more reliable? Expect honest lessons, practical takeaways, and a relaxed atmosphere among fellow cloud enthusiasts.

Join us on Tuesday, November 25, for an evening where four experts will share how they build reliable, cost-effective systems that keep up with growing demands and stay flexible along the way. Let's meet in the Applifting meetup space, both in person and online. We’ll start at 18:00.

👉 Register here 👈 if you want to attend in person. Spaces are limited and our event planner Anetka would be sad if we had to turn you away at the door!

Who’s speaking?
Patrik Kováčik, Cloud Engineer at Applifting, will kick things off by showing how smart automation keeps multi-cloud environments consistent and efficient. He’ll be followed by Martin Slanina, Cloud Solution Architect at Svitio, who’ll share how treating infrastructure as code helps teams stay organized and reduce human errors.

Joining them on stage will be Tin Plavec, Cloud Engineer and Leader of Internal Infrastructure at Applifting, talking about building flexible systems that adapt to whatever the project needs, and Honza Brychta, DevOps Lead at GTO Wizard, who’ll show how smart autoscaling keeps everything running smoothly without wasting resources.

There will be Q&As sprinkled throughout the event to quench your thirst for knowledge. Come and chat, get to know each other, and see how we think about things at Applifting.

We look forward to meeting you!

Schedule:

17:30 – Doors open

  • Get your ticket ready, say hello to others, and have a drink with us. 🥂

18:00 – Introduction by Filip Kirschner

  • Our co-founder Filip will give you a short welcome and introduce our speakers.

18:15 – Patrik Kováčik: Multi-cloud image replication

  • We'll talk about an automated solution for replicating container images across multi-cloud repositories. I will show you how we used technologies like cloud functions and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to build an efficient, reliable, and cost-effective replication pipeline.

18:45 – Martin Slanina: GitOps for GitHub

  • In this session, we’ll explore how we applied GitOps principles to GitHub itself, using OpenTofu to manage repositories, teams, permissions, reusable workflows, branch protections, and code owners—all as code. By treating GitHub configuration declaratively, we achieved consistent environments, simplified onboarding, and reduced human error.

19:15 – 15-minute break

19:30 – Tin Plavec: Running Terraform in Lambda!?

  • We'll talk about an unusual, but effective project setup we did for one of our clients, Remangu. The goal of the project, enabling Remangu users to run on-demand workspaces in the AWS cloud, was achieved with a combination of ECS tasks, Lambda functions, Terraform modules, and GitOps repositories. Implementing this distributed system brought many challenges—and solutions, which we will discuss in the talk.

20:00 – Honza Brychta: Autoscaling workers for custom report generation

  • In this talk, I’ll show the infrastructure behind GTO Wizard’s Custom Aggregated Reports feature, where users can spin up complex, fully customizable solver reports on demand. To support this, we run a large fleet of short-lived workers on AWS and use aggressive autoscaling to handle very spiky workloads: scaling out fast when many reports are requested, and scaling in just as fast to keep costs under control.

20:30 – Networking, food & drinks 🍻

  • Snacks and drinks, including draft beer, will be available for you all evening. Get ready to network with Applifters!

22:00 – Time to say goodbye!

  • Some of us may move on to a pub, but the doors of Applifting are closing, and we'll look forward to seeing you next time!

For capacity reasons, please let us know if you will attend in person or participate online. The presentations will be streamed, but we would love to see you there.

We look forward to meeting you!
