So You’ve Been Made a Data Steward. Now What?

Architecting for Innovation — Lunch & Learn #85

Serious Data. Not‑So‑Serious Speakers.

Our favourite comedy data double act — Darryl Carr and David Wiebe — return for Spring 2026 with another lively, insight‑rich conversation.

Management has made the call: We’re uplifting our Data Management capability. And in a moment of great wisdom (or mild desperation), they’ve nominated you as a Data Steward. Congratulations… and welcome to the fun.
But what is a Data Steward, really?

And how do you make the role work in an organisation rolling out Agentic AI and LLMs faster than anyone can keep up?
Join David Wiebe and Darryl Carr for a practical, candid, and occasionally cheeky conversation about navigating Data Stewardship in a world where automation is accelerating and governance is struggling to keep pace.

They’ll unpack what matters, what doesn’t, and what Data Management can actually do to help you succeed.

We’ll explore questions such as:

  • Is this a role anyone can do? — and what separates the naturals from the “accidental stewards”.
  • What knowledge makes the role easier? — the practical foundations that save you months of pain.
  • What makes Data Stewardship successful? — the behaviours, relationships and rituals that actually move the needle.
  • How do Agentic AI and LLMs change the picture? — and what your organisation needs to consider right now.
  • Where do AI Governance and Data Governance fit? — and how to avoid the “two committees arguing over the same problem” trap.
  • How do we keep the bots aligned with organisational goals? — because misaligned automation is just expensive chaos.

Whether you’re brand new to Data Stewardship or quietly wondering how to survive it, this session will give you clarity, confidence, and a few laughs along the way.
