Beyond Defensible Architecture: Building Enterprise OT Security Capability #84
with Daniel Castillo — Director, Skadi Solutions
We’re welcoming Daniel Castillo back for Session #84 of Architecting for Innovation — and this time we’re going deeper than defensible architecture.
Critical infrastructure teams are increasingly realising that defensible architecture is only the starting point. The real challenge? Turning one‑off OT security projects into a repeatable, scalable, enterprise-wide capability.
In this interactive Lunch & Learn, Daniel Castillo will lead a practical discussion on what it actually takes to operate OT security at scale. We’ll explore how organisations move beyond isolated technical solutions to build shared services, consistent governance, and long‑term operational models that work across diverse environments.
Expect a grounded, practitioner‑level conversation covering:
- Transitioning from project delivery to enterprise OT security capability
- Shared platform services — identity, secure remote access, monitoring, logging, backup & recovery, asset visibility.
- Governance & ownership across engineering, operations and cyber
- Maintaining architecture through implementation, operations and continual assurance
- Lessons learned from organisations that have scaled OT security well — and those that haven’t
Whether your organisation is building its first OT security platform or maturing an existing one, this session is designed to spark open exchange, shared learning, and practical approaches to creating OT security architectures that are not only defensible by design but also sustainable in operation.
About the Speaker
Daniel Castillo is a mechatronics engineer-turned cybersecurity specialist and the Director of Skadi Solutions, working with critical infrastructure and building automation operators across Australia. His career spans robotics, systems engineering, enterprise IT, and OT cybersecurity.
Daniel previously served as the OT specialist for the Australian Signals Directorate’s Critical Infrastructure Uplift Program (CI‑UP), supporting national resilience initiatives. Today, he helps organisations build operational cybersecurity resilience that actually sticks — through practical architecture, fit‑for‑purpose controls, and strong collaboration between security, engineering, and operations.
