Part of my architectural walk series- Postmodern Architecture!

Postmodernism is an eclectic, colourful style of architecture and the decorative arts that appeared from the late 1970s and continues in some form today.

It emerged as a reaction to Modernism and the Modern Movement and the dogmas associated with it. By the 1970s Modernism had begun to seem elitist and exclusive, despite its democratic intentions. The failure of building methods and materials (shown in the collapse of Ronan Point, a tower block in east London in 1968) and alienating housing estates was a focus for architects and critics in the early 1970s.

Bright Colours, playfulness, Variety of materials and shapes, classical motifs, etc.

London offers an excellent selection of these so do join me in a walk about.

BIENNALE ARCHITETTURA 2025: INTELLIGENS. NATURAL. ARTIFICIAL. COLLECTIVE.

The 19th International Architecture Exhibition is open to visitors from 10 May to Sunday 23 November 2025 (pre-opening May 8 and 9), curated by the architect and engineer Carlo Ratti, who has commented: “To face a burning world, architecture must harness all the intelligence around us. I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to curate the Biennale Architettura 2025”.

BIENNALE ARCHITETTURA 2025

The 19th International Architecture Exhibition, titled Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., curated by Carlo Ratti and organised by La Biennale di Venezia, is open to the public from Saturday May 10 to Sunday November 23,2025, at the Giardini, the Arsenale and at Forte Marghera.
