Mt. Logan and Mt. Trumbull (Car camp with day hikes)

North of the Grand Canyon in the Arizona Strip lie two small wilderness areas close together, Mt. Logan and Mt. Trumbull. Each area has one summit trail and there is a BLM camp at the base of Mt. Trumbull. The hikes are pretty easy, but the drive to get there is long. We’ll drive up Friday, camp overnight at the Mount Trumbull camp. On Saturday, we’ll do both summits. We’ll drive home Sunday.

Leaving from the campsite, the Mount Trumbull summit hike is 5 miles round trip, with about 1,500 feet elevation gain, starting from 6500’. The last mile to the summit is trailless, but easy to navigate. The HikeArizona.com description is here: https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=395

On Saturday afternoon, we’ll drive about 7 miles to the Mt. Logan trailhead. This is a short trail, about 1 mile round trip, with 240 feet of elevation gain, starting at 7800’. The HikeArizona.com description is here: https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=396

There is a lot of driving for this trip, about 400 miles each way from Phoenix. The last 50 miles or so are dirt road.
