2 Night Holiday Backpack in the Western Supes - Dog Friendly
Details
With all these recent rains it's a great time to go to the Supes.
This used to be my favorite area in AZ (until all the fires). A lot of the Western Supes did not burn and that's where most of this trip will be.
There is one section on the Red Tanks trail that may not be passable. I have an alternate route if we can't find the trail.
This will be a 2 night backpack basically going around Weaver's Needle.
The Plan:
Friday December 26th, 9am: Meet at Basha's in Gold Canyon and drive to the Peralta TH. We'll start the hike and take Peralta Trail 102 to Dutchman Trail 104. We'll make camp near White Rock Spring.
Saturday December 27th, 10am: We'll break camp and stay on Dutchman Trail until Red Tanks Trail 107. We'll see how far we can get on this trail. If not very far, we'll backtrack and take an alternate route. If the going is not so tough we'll push through to Whiskey Spring Trail 238 and camp near Whiskey Spring.
Sunday December 28th, 10am: We'll hike the remaining 3 or 4 miles out back to Peralta TH on Bluff Springs Trail 135.
Details:
Day 1: 8(ish) miles , 1700(ish) AEG
Peralta Trail 102
Dutchman Trail 104 Camp right before 104 and 129 junction (near White Rock Spring)
Day 2: 5(ish) miles, 500(ish) AEG
Dutchman Trail 104
Red Tanks Trail 107 <-- could be overgrown
Whiskey Spring Trail 238 Camp at Whiskey Spring
Alternative route:
Stay on Dutchman Camp at Crystal or Bluff spring
Day 3: 4(ish) miles, 1000(ish) AEG
Dutchman Trail 102
Bluff Springs Trail 135
Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
Dogs: Yes
Kids: Yes
Water: At camp both nights, probably along the way too.
Fee:
$2 to help cover meetup costs.
Disclaimer:
The planned hike is listed above, but the group's ability takes precedence. If I think someone may not make it for whatever reason (injury, out of shape, solar flares, etc...) I'll change the plan and do my best to tailor the trip to the groups wants and capabilities.
Life is dangerous. It ends in death 100% of the time. Try not to speed that up on my trips please.

Recommended Gear:
- Water for the entire day (this means 4 Liters/Quarts for someone weighing 100 - 200 lbs, you weigh more, ring more water) and some way to treat/filter water.
- First aid kit.
- Backpack... duh.
- Sleeping bag, Tent, hammock.
- Clothing: I recommend one set of hiking and one set of sleeping clothes.
- Small dish towel. This comes in very handy.
- Toiletries (toothbrush, paste, deo and quick dissolving toilet paper).
- Headlamp.
- Utensils for the food.
- Food: you must feed yourself.
