🔍 Exploratory trip to the "Rockhouse" in the Redfield Canyon Wilderness

I'm posting this trip as exploratory since I've never been here. Depending on what vehicles show up on meetup day will determine if this will be a short and moderate bushwhacking backpack 🤕 of 1.5 miles one way or a long road walk of 8+ miles followed by the short and moderate bushwhack.

This is one of those places that I've always wanted to go to but for whatever reasons, I haven't. This place is located in the Redfield Wilderness which is north of Tucson and adjacent to the Galiuro Wilderness and near Aravaipai.

We'll drive to Redington AZ late on the Friday before Valentine's Day ♥️ a.k.a. Arizona Statehood day, We'll set up camp on the dirt road leading to the TH. I’m sure some won’t be able to meetup with us on Friday evening but can show up late Friday or early on Saturday. On Saturday we'll backpack to the Rockhouse which is nearly 100 years old and set up camp. Depending on being able to drive to the TH, we may have time to explore up canyon and see how passable it is for a possible future trans Galiuro backpack.

This is a pristine riparian area and has lots of wildlife in it. Water should be found in the canyon so no need to carry an entire trips worth in with you. Don't be surprised if we run into a bear, mountain lion or worse! 😱 I'm keeping this trip small (6-8) since I don't know how many people we can fit into this place. Also from the looks of the interior, it doesn't look tent friendly. I'll probably sleep on my air mattress.

There's a $2 per person volunteer cash donation to attend so Greg can fund the yearly meetup dues. Also Amy has a trip scheduled for this weekend, to be fair, no one on her RSVP list can attend this trip, I wrote down her going list.

I'm by no means a professional guide but have spent hundred's of nights out on backpacking trips. Most of the places I venture to are remote and sometimes help is many hours and even a day or two away. When you participate on my trips you must realize that you are responsible for yourself and bad things can happen. I intend on using good judgement when leading but will not be with you at all times. In an event that something bad happens I intend on giving and or getting help as soon as its safely possible. I expect the same in return, you watch my back and I watch yours.
