Hello!
As you might be aware, the Southwest has experienced an unusually warm, dry winter. With that being said, the spring sources are extremely unreliable, and I am going to change this itinerary as I do not personally want to carry 9L up 4k feet.
Instead of an overnight backpacking trip, the plan is now a car camp and beefy day hike journey. 😎
Friday: arrive at Herb Maytr campground. I’m coming in after work on Friday, I assume I’ll be there late, like 9-10p. I’m trying to get off sooner than normal, but it’s not a guarantee. Anyone else is welcome to join in. Several reviews say that the campsites are reachable by sedan. The overnight fee is $7.50 CASH per night with an America the Beautiful Pass, or $15 CASH without. Sites are FCFS. I suggest chatting amongst yourself for sharing sites, or even carpooling from the Valley as it’s a long drive. I’ll be sharing a site with a member of the group, I’m sure we can fit 2 more members at the site. If the sites are all taken, there’s an additional campground lower down, though I don’t assume that will happen, especially if we group up.

Saturday: BEEFY HIKE. We’re taking on the entire Chiricahua Peak as a day hike. It’s 15 miles, just over 4,000ft of elevation. Start time is 8a at the campground. Please be prepared to START at this time, as I won’t be able to confirm the start time with those asleep on Friday night upon my arrival. We’ll camp out at Herb Maytr on Saturday as well. Bring ample water, snacks, HEADLAMP, and a lunch. We’ll break for lunch at the top. I suggest layers, as the temperature will decrease as we ascend.

Sunday: You’re welcome to head back to Phoenix, or: Join me in heading over to the Chiricahua National Monument! There are two routes we could do depending on the group - 3 miles or 8 miles, starting at Echo Canyon Trailhead. This is a spectacular park full of incredible rock formations. Even if you don’t plan to hike it, I HIGHLY recommend driving through it. Free with America the Beautiful Pass.

As an effort to keep this wonderful group afloat, i am looking for $2 in donations via cash, paypal, or venmo.

This will still be a rockin weekend, see you there! 😎
