Topic: Introducing PostgreSQL to SQL Server and Oracle Experts
Speaker: Umair Shahid
Abstract:
Originally an academic project at the University of California, Berkeley, PostgreSQL has matured into a trusted choice for mission-critical workloads, valued for its reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency. For database professionals with deep SQL Server and Oracle experience, PostgreSQL offers an opportunity to extend existing expertise into an open-source technology that is now powering some of the world’s largest enterprise systems.
This session is designed for SQL Server and Oracle experts who want to build on their current skills by understanding where PostgreSQL fits into enterprise architectures. We will discuss how PostgreSQL differs structurally, its approaches to database continuity, essential migration concepts and tools, and how to evaluate community versus commercial editions for enterprise use. The goal of the talk is to enhance your existing knowledge by equipping you with additional expertise for hybrid or future transitions.
