AMC Campout in Payson!

The heat is on, so let's head for the pines and go camping!

Join other AMC members for a campout at the Ponderosa campground east of Payson for two nights, arriving Friday, July 11th and leaving Sunday, July 13th. This event is a chance for AMC members to meet, mingle, and get outside with old or new friends.

The campground is located about 15 miles east of Payson on the south side of 260. It’s near Christopher Creek and Horton Creek, as well as the Hellsgate Wilderness, (see map) so there are lots of opportunities for climbing, hiking, or canyoneering, depending on your interests.

Feel free to plan your own outdoor activities for the weekend. Additionally, there will be the following (optional) outings available to campers:

Top Rope Climbing - Christopher Creek Gorge (Saturday)

• Skills Required: BORC or equivalent training/experience, proper belay technique using PBUS, basic climbing communication, basic climbing knots.

Canyoneering - Christopher Creek Canyon (Saturday and Sunday)

• Skills Required: BORC or equivalent training/experience, comfort in and around water, strong swimming skills.
• Participation / group sizes may be limited.

If you intend to participate in one of these (optional) outings, please indicate which one(s) in your RSVP per the instructions below. Participant selection is at the sole discretion of outing leader(s). Outings are dependent on weather and other conditions.

You will automatically be added to a meetup event (based on your RSVP per instructions below) and provided with additional outing details (such as what gear you need to bring etc.) 1-2 weeks prior to the campout.

Important Notes:
Event is limited to 20 campers.

***AMC is covering campsite reservation *** . We have reserved Group Site F. See Ponderosa Campground on recreation.gov for a site map.

Campsite vehicle limit is 5 vehicles. A few additional vehicles can be accommodated for a fee (paid to directly to the campground onsite) for $8 per night. Carpooling is highly encouraged. If you don't have anyone you know to carpool with, contact event organizer and they will try to connect you with a carpool.

There’s space for tents as well as a few small trailers / vans and there are no hookups. There is water available, as well as pit latrines and bear boxes. Arrival is anytime after 2 p.m. on July 11th and checkout is 11 a.m. on July 13th. If you are planning to bring a trailer, please contact event organizer to make sure it can be accommodated.

How to RSVP:
Add yourself to the waitlist and provide your name, email address, and which of the following group outings (if any) you are interested in participating in: [Climbing, Canyoneering, or None]. This information will only be visible to you and the event organizers. If you do not include this information, you will be passed over for the next person on the waitlist.
