Grab your harness AND your gloves for this outing. It's time to tidy up our favorite stretch of highway — the AMC's adopted mile of U.S. 60 near Superior, Arizona.

As one of the club's regular stewardship events, our semi-annual Queen Creek Clean-Up and Climb is a fun way to give back to the community and make Arizona a little bit more grand.

We will spend a couple hours tidying up the entrance to Superior - the gateway to the beautiful Queen Creek Canyon and Oak Flat - and then... We'll climb!

Our intrepid Outing Leaders will set up several top-rope routes at the Pancake House crag, which offers something to suit all climbing levels. This beginner-friendly outing is excellent for recent graduates of AMC's Basic Outdoor Rock Climbing School.

Attendees: Maximum 20. You must be a current AMC member with a waiver on file. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you are not a member, you can join or renew on our website: https://www.arizonamountaineeringclub.org/membership
Attendee list is at the sole discretion of event leaders.

Location: U.S. 60, approximately 1 mile west of Superior, at the turnoff for Superior Municipal Airport on the south side of the highway.

Agenda: Meet at 8 a.m. for the highway cleanup. We'll distribute gear and review safety protocols, then start picking up trash. After finishing the cleanup, we will drive to Oak Flat (~10 minutes from the cleanup location). From there we will consolidate vehicles and make a short bumpy ride to Upper Devils Canyon. We will hike in to Pancake House and climb until approximately 3 p.m. Everyone will help break down climbs and carry ropes and gear on the hike out.

For the clean-up, bring: Work gloves, long pants and sleeves. Boots are strongly recommended, as we will be working on the side of the highway around prickly grass & shrubs. We also recommend a hat and weather-appropriate outerwear, plus water and snacks.

For the climbing, bring: Harness, helmet, personal anchor, belay/rappel device, several carabiners, and climbing shoes. If you have a high-clearance vehicle and are willing to help drive from Oak Flat to the climbing area, that would be a bonus.
