A Cochise Thanksgiving
Details
Folks;
I sent a previous "hold the date" announcement regarding an outing to the Cochise Stronghold over the Thanksgiving Weekend. In that announcement I mentioned that I would be sending an update with specifics.
I know that many of you have already RSVP'ed. That's ok. This is the update. Remember that you MUST be a current member to participate!
WHAT: a weekend of climbing in the West Stronghold of Cochise
WHEN: 28-30 November, 2025
WHO: current AMC members
LOGISTICS: you are welcome to go out early, but Sampson will not be on site until 28 November around 2 pm. There is a small pullout just before Slavin Gulch (perhaps 200 feet before the wash) along 687, the gravel road that passes on the West side of the Dragoons. That is where we will camp (assuming that it is not occupied). If it is occupied I will find another site. The Lat/Long is 31.874861,-110.024783 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/EgaMHKciZa7hhCQf8).
For those that plan on going for Thanksgiving day, I do hope the site is available. For those that will arrive on Friday (or later) I will have signs along the road.
Plan on climbing Saturday and Sunday Morning. Please bring all the gear you need to a climbing day; climbing shoes, approach shoes, harness, and all the typical AMC rigging. Also, remember that there are NO services anywhere near the camping, so you need to be self-contained (i.e., food, water, clothing, etc.). It will be cold at night. Please dress accordingly. And, it will likely be cold climbing (in the shade at times).
It would be nice to have another outing leader along. If one of the AMC outing leaders would like to participate and help me set up climbs that would be wonderful.
If someone wants to coordinate the Thanksgiving day activities you are welcome to do so.
I have likely left something out. E-mail me if you have questions. My updated address is: david.arb.sampson@gmail.com
Thanks!
