AMC Campout at Mingus Mountain

Join the Arizona Mountaineering Club for our summer campout on Mingus Mountain!
Escape the Valley heat and spend a weekend among the ponderosa pines and AMC friends at 7,500+ feet elevation in the Prescott National Forest.

Dates: Friday, August 7th – Sunday, August 9th (Arrive anytime Friday after 2PM; depart by Sunday 12PM)
Location: Mingus Mountain Campground - Group site C
Cost: Group campsite provided by AMC.
RSVP: RSVP to add yourself to the wait list and once your membership is verified you will be marked as going.
Carpool: Carpooling always encouraged. Feel free to coordinate carpooling with other attendees (The Meetup comments section can be useful for this purpose).

For the campout, you'll need:
- Your own camping gear etc. (room for tents and small trailers/vans)
- Your own food, water
- Rain gear / poncho (monsoon season — afternoon storms are possible)
- Camp chair and optionally a dish, snack or beverages to share Saturday night.

Group site has pit toilets, a fire ring, and picnic tables. Check current fire restrictions

About the mountain:
Mingus Mountain is in a part of Arizona called the Transition Zone. This part of the State lies between the Sonoran low desert to the south and the higher Colorado Plateau to the north. The vegetation is a mixture of plants from both areas. Here, at an elevation of about 7,800 feet, cacti, yuccas, and agaves grow in an open forest of ponderosa pines. At only slightly lower elevations the tall pines are replaced by oaks and large shrubs. The best time for wildflower viewing in this area is usually July and August after summer rains. The mountain is also a well-known birding hot-spot, with the elevation and diverse
habitat drawing migrating and resident species throughout the season.

Prescott is 30 miles from the Campground. Jerome is 8 miles from the campground on the other side of the mountain.

For those interested, AMC Outing Leaders will plan rock climbing to coincide with the weekend, location/details TBD. Watch out for additional Meetup event(s) which will be shared with attendees ~1-2 weeks before the campout.

Will be a corn-hole set at camp. Feel free to bring any of your own games.
