AMC's 35th Annual Grand Canyon Over-the-Rim Clean-Up
Please read the entire description before signing up.

We’re happy to announce AMC’s 2026 Grand Canyon Over-The-Edge Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, September 26!

This is AMC’s 35th year of providing this valuable public service, where we pick up litter below the rim of the Grand Canyon during National Public Lands Day. This is the flagship event of AMC’s stewardship program, and it is an honor to be able to help take care of Arizona’s most iconic landmark.

If needed, there may also be a smaller cleanup on the morning of Sunday, September 27 for interested participants.

GROUP SIZE:
Event will be limited to no more than 40 participants, with final participant count to be determined by NPS personnel and the Event Organizer.

COST:
Park entry fee and campsite fees are graciously waived by NPS, however participants are responsible for their own transportation, gear, food, and personal items. All participants will be required to purchase and wear the custom event t-shirt at a cost of $20 per shirt.

LODGING:
Grand Canyon National Park has provided a limited number of campsites at Mather Campground for the nights of September 25 and 26. Participants may arrive on Friday, September 25 and may stay until the morning of Sunday, September 27. Please note that we are unable to accommodate guests in the AMC reserved campsites. Participants who do not wish to camp in the AMC sites are welcome to make alternate lodging arrangements.

TRANSPORTATION:
Participants must arrange their own transportation to and from the event, however AMC encourages carpooling and we will send additional information out to event participants in advance to help coordinate shared transportation if desired.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE:
Consideration for participation in the 2026 event is limited to those who:

  1. Are a current 2026 AMC member, with current liability waiver on file, and are at least eighteen years of age;
  2. Have completed AMC's Basic Outdoor Rock Climbing School or equivalent, as determined by the Event Organizer;
  3. Have completed AMC's Anchors School or are willing to partner with someone who has. This is required in at least one member of every pair of active climbers. This requirement may limit the total number of event participants;
  4. Have demonstrated proficiency in Self-Rescue skills, which are critical to a successful event. Even if you have done cleanups in the past, it is mandatory you attend one of the Skills Review sessions to review latest techniques. Those will be held on August 22 and September 12. You may attend either event, but you will not be considered for this event unless you have also signed up for one of the Skills Review sessions. Attending the Skills Review session is not a guarantee that you will be able to participate in the Cleanup, as space may be limited.
  5. Commit to bringing your helmet, harness, basic climbing safety gear, and everything on the required gear list to be provided later.
  6. Commit to complying with any public health requirements or other relevant rules, regulations, or requirements in effect at the time of the event, including but not limited to those from: Federal (including CDC), State, Local, or Tribal authorities; Grand Canyon personnel; or those specific to the AMC;
  7. Commit to providing your own food, climbing gear, and camping gear or lodging;
  8. Purchase and wear the event t-shirt during the event;
  9. Comply with all instructions provided by event organizer or team leaders;
  10. Respond in a timely manner to all communications related to this event.

PARTICIPANT SIGNUP:
RSVP will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 16.
If you are interested in participating in this event, please sign up to be added to the waitlist. Each individual desiring to participate must sign up separately and should include contact information as requested. By placing your name on the waitlist, you are agreeing to abide by the requirements outlined above and those that may be added or revised to ensure the safety of the Grand Canyon visitors, National Park Service personnel, and other AMC participants.
