Let’s go kayaking/SUP-ing the Lower Salt River.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY.

WE ARE NOT RIVER GUIDES. WE ARE ONLY FACILITATING THIS TRIP.

THIS IS A “JOINT VENTURE”.

PLEASE DON’T SIGN UP AND THEN BAIL. THAT PREVENTS OTHERS FROM
BEING ABLE TO ATTEND.

This is a fun river for those who have experience on flat water, and are ready to move into current (Class I and a little Class 2 rapids in short sections), and for those with more experience.
If you have never paddled before, this trip is NOT for you. You should practice on flat, still water first. Let me know if you have questions about that, or want a trip on flat water.

BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING. (That’s SUP/boat, paddles, personal flotation device (you decide), water, food, sun protection, hat, waterproof bag for camera, footgear that you can walk a ways in if you have to, etc.)

Stay hydrated. Flip flops often come off and are lost.

Meet-up Location and Time: Meet at Water User’s Recreation Area (the “put in” place) at 7:00 a.m., unload your boat, carry it to the water, and be ready to shuttle cars promptly at 7:15 a.m. We’ll ask for volunteers (passengers) to watch the boats while drivers shuttle the cars down to Phon D. Sutton Rec. Area. (All cars go to Phon D, as few as possible
come back to Water Users.) .Late arrivals will need to leave their car at

Water User’s in order to paddle with the group.
If you are new to this, come a little early, so you don’t hold up the group.

We will have a SAFETY MEETING just before we begin the paddle. PLEASE DON’T HAVE US WAITING FOR YOU. Pee early, plan ahead, and pay attention.

NO alcohol consumption before or during the paddle.

No glass containers.

At the “take out”: If someone needs help with their craft/gear, please pitch in and help. Keeping the weight down in your craft will be a big help.
We’ll then need a few drivers to drive a few people to Water Users to get their cars (and those people will drive back to Phon D. to load their boats). If you are driving to the Beeline Hwy., you are going past Water Users anyway, and perhaps it will work for you to volunteer to drop a few people off at Water Users, at their car.

SAFETY TIPS:
The three things that get people in trouble the most on these river trips are:
1. Panic,
2. Inattention,
3. Strainers
If your boat is rolling over, just relax into the water. It’s part of the fun, and not a reason to panic. Hang on to your paddle; it’s hard to find in the water. Others can see your craft and get it, if needed. Keep yourself out of

STRAINERS. Strainers are the outside curve of the river with bushes and trees extending into the water. The current can shove you under bushes, and trap you. Avoid overhanging trees, rock ledges, and any ropes or
fishing lines, or other hazards.

When people are busy talking, or are tired toward the end of the trip, they may not pay attention to what the river is like downstream from them. Then they may get up on a rapid, or strainer, or swirling current, and panic. Pay attention to downstream. If you are unsure how to do something, hang back and watch others first.

Everything, except you, and your paddle, should be secured to your boat/SUP. There should be no ropes dangling for you to tangle up in.
There are pit-toilets where we put in and take out.
