What we’re about

Our current Study Group book is Meditations  Marcus Aurelius,  Gregory Hays translation 2003 The Modern Library edition (it has a red crow and white feather on the paperback cover).

STOICISM FOR MODERN LIFE:
New to Stoicism? This group is composed of some members who have various levels of experience with Stoicism and other schools of philosophy, along with those who have recently discovered Stoicism and the idea of applying practical philosophy to every-day life.
HOW CAN WE USE STOICISM? Here's one example:
Events occur, and we believe that we are reacting to those events.
The Stoic is aware that External Events occur, that they are filtered through our individual opinions/ habits/ beliefs/ judgments and then we react (mostly to the judgments, etc.). As a Stoic we Practice being Conscious of those judgments and opinions and take Responsibility for them. In so doing, we are able to use Reason to adjust our thoughts/ projections to experience less drama and distress as we Respond to whatever Life brings. Stoic Philosophers offer many Practical Strategies to achieve that end.
