Jim DeRogatis is a professor of practice teaching arts criticism and journalism at Medill and the author of several books about music, including Soulless: The Case Against R. Kelly. He spent 15 years as the pop music critic at the Chicago Sun-Times, and 15 years as a professor in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Columbia College Chicago. He has played in punk-rock bands since age thirteen but jokes that he is a drummer, not a musician.

Greg Kot served as The Chicago Tribune music critic for 30 years. This year he'll be teaching a course on democracy and American music at the University of Chicago's Graham School. He's also developing a play based on his award-winning biography of Mavis Staples, I'll Take You There. His seven books include the Wilco biography Learning How to Die and Ripped: How the Wired Generation Revolutionized Music**.**
