## Art & Artifacts: Artifact Hunt 🪵

When: June 20th/9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Meeting Spot: The Main Cup (Middletown, MD)
Hey everyone! For our next gathering, we are trading the tables for the field. Late spring is prime time for creek walking—recent rain and winter shifts have churned up the gravel beds, making it the perfect season to spot hidden history. Cameron knows a great local creek spot with a couple of gravel beaches that are perfect for scouting!

### The Plan

  • Gathering (The Main Cup): We will meet up at The Main Cup first. (9:30ish) No pressure to buy anything, but it’s a great chance to grab a coffee or water to go, use the facilities, and make sure everyone has arrived.
  • Heading Out: Once the group is assembled, @ (10 a.m.) we will head out to Cameron's spot together (carpooling is encouraged, but it's 1.5 miles away).
  • The creek features two small islands with little gravel beaches that are absolute hotspots for scouting artifacts.
  • A note on our location : While we can't promise any guarantees , this time of year is excellent for keeping an eye out! If you look across the creek, you might just spot historical artifacts starting to push through and expose themselves along the creek walls. Bring your sharpest eyes.
  • The After-Show (Show & Tell) After we've wrapped up at the creek, those who want can head back to The Main Cup. The manager is setting aside some tables and chairs just for our group, so we can grab a bite or a drink, lay out our finds, and talk about what we uncovered!
  • What to Bring & Wear
Because we’ll be walking along water and gravel, a little preparation goes a long way:
  • Footwear: Water shoes, old sneakers, or boots you don't mind getting wet. No flip-flops, as river rocks can be slippery and sharp!
  • Clothing: Clothes you don't mind getting a little muddy.
  • Gear: A walking stick or trekking pole (great for keeping your balance in the current), a small mesh bag or canvas bags for your finds, and a small trowel to dig with and a towel for the car.
  • Eyes Peeled: Bring your curiosity! Cameron and Pamela will be on hand to help identify interesting stone types, worked edges, and local geological artifacts.
  • 🐾 A Quick Note on Four-Legged Hunters
Our resident senior water-expert (Pamela's English Shepherd/Border Collie mix) will be joining us to supervise the shoreline! If you have a pup who loves the water and gets along well with others, they are welcome to tag along—just make sure to bring a leash.
Come out, enjoy the fresh air, connect with local history, and let’s see what treasures the creek has uncovered for us this year!
