The Vasco da Gama Aquarium, situated in AlgΓ©s, is one of the oldest in the world and is a historical heritage that promotes aquatic life. In addition to the aquarium, you can see rare specimens of various species, including marine fish of both indigenous and tropical fauna, birds, mammals marine and mollusks.
Part of the charm of the Aquarium Museum is a room created in 1980s to showcase the King D. Calos I Collection. This room displays exotic shells, waterfowl specimens and magnificent specimens and reproductions of marine mammals stranded on our shores. Three thematic dioramas also stand out in this exhibition: The Monk Seal, the South African Otarias and the Otters.
The museum also houses a taxidermy laboratory where several taxidermists were trained, who prepared an extensive set of specimens, as well as numerous reproductions in fiberglass and synthetic resins.
