Beyond the Brush — Expressive Calligraphy & Meta-Cognitive Art

Beyond the Brush — Expressive Calligraphy & Meta-Cognitive Art

TIME SHARING Shinjuku Gyoemmae Room 1001 新宿御苑前 壱丁目参番館 1001, 1 Chome-3-12 Shinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0022 〒160-0022 東京都新宿区新宿1-3-12壱丁目参番館, Tokyo, JP

Discover the art of being present through ink, nature, and self-reflection.

In the heart of Tokyo’s hustle, we invite you to slow down and reconnect with yourself. This isn’t a traditional calligraphy class focused on perfect strokes; it’s a sensory exploration of self-expression and the "art of thinking about your thinking."

What is Meta-Cognitive Art?
Meta-cognition is the awareness of your own thought processes. In this workshop, we use art as a mirror. By observing why you choose a specific word and how you connect with certain materials (like the raw texture of a stone over a traditional brush), you gain a deeper understanding of your inner patterns. Noticing how your breathing shifts with every stroke helps you become more aware of your emotional state and creative flow.

What we will explore:

  • Sensory Tools: We provide traditional ink brushes, plus flowers, stones, branches, and sponges for unique textures.
  • Mindful Breathing: Guided exercises to calm the mind before the ink touches paper.
  • Freedom of Expression: Write in Japanese Kanji, Chinese, or English.
  • A Safe Space for Introverts: A quiet, supportive, and non-judgmental environment.
  • Reflective Sharing: A gentle sharing session to discuss our creative process and feelings.

Who is this for?
This English-speaking workshop is perfect for anyone—especially introverts—seeking a safe space to relieve stress, practice mindfulness, and explore their inner world through the beauty of ink.
