Friendship Across Traditions: A Shared Exploration

Details
An interactive talk, followed by a discussion, about the many meanings of friendship—ranging from ordinary and spiritual companionship, to a relationship with the Divine—in both Sufism and Buddhism. Drawing mainly on poetry and historical examples, it is less an academic treatment of the traditions themselves than an extended reflection on the nature of friendship, both literal and metaphorical, through the lens of these traditions. It touches on questions such as: what is a friend? How should we choose our friends? And what is the value of friendship, both in everyday life and on the spiritual path?
This time, we want to make the session more interactive. If you have poems or other texts exploring friendship from your own tradition, please bring them with you. You’ll have the opportunity to share them with all of us for a rich and meaningful discussion.
