Let’s look at and discuss art the Whitney
Details
The short version: A small, personal tour of select items of the Sixties Surreal exhibit at the Whitney Museum. Let’s look at work and see what conversation we have about it! Ive been once and it’s crazy!
The longer version: Every time I go to an exciting exhibit, I want to stop fellow onlookers and ask: "Are we seeing the same things?"
Some people are willing to play, others are not. If you are, let’s try this together.
We will meet at the Whitney (each buying our own tickets, but i can get each guest in for ONLY $5!) and then I’ll lead us on a walk & talk through an exhibit full of weird and wonderful things. We won’t look at everything. We will do quality over quantity! Fresh Eyes! I’ll encourage you to be playful, curious and adventurous. I will tell you what I know and what I intuit, and also what I don't know. I have my theories and questions, and maybe you will too! Some biggies I have: Why do people make the art they do? Why should we look at it? How does it relate to life? What do you do when it is freaky or rude? What happens when we leave the exhibit?
This is about: Looking at art. AND it is about having a conversation. And it is about checking out the balconies with great views at the Whitney, unless it is COOOOLD....
Who am I?
I am a visual artist and set designer, with a strong interest in collaboration and engagement with intentional and
accidental audiences. I find the NYC art world fascinating, complicated, welcoming and forbidding all at once. It is best done with friends like you.
Please note #1: This is a tour for art newbies to art devotees. I welcome all. I will ask you to share your thoughts and experiences, I am not lecturing you, I am not the expert here. You will be welcome to love what you see, hate it or not get it. We do this together.
Please note #2: I have a membership and can get 1 person in for free and everyone else for $5/person. Contact me as early as possible if the admission is too much and lets see if we can work it out.
Please note #3: Covid conscious masking is welcome. I might wear one myself...
