A small, personal guided conversation about looking, feeling, thinking, and wondering.

Let's ask weird questions! Notice strange things! See what art does to us.

Every time I go to an exciting exhibit, I want to stop fellow onlookers and ask: "Are we seeing the same things?” Some people are willing to play, others are not. If you are, let’s try this together.

We will meet at the Whitney (each buying our own tickets) and then I’ll lead us on a walk & talk through an exhibit full of weird and wonderful things. We won’t look at everything. We will do quality over quantity! Fresh Eyes! I hope you’ll join me in an open low pressure, no pretense conversation about what we see, and how it affects us. I’ll encourage you to be playful, curious and adventurous. I will tell you what I know and what I intuit, and also what I don't know. I have my theories and questions, and maybe you will too!

We might also go stand on one of the museum’s great balconies, breathe cold air and look at the neighborhood. I might also ask you to walk through a gallery and not look at the art but instead look at what color the walls are, or only listen to the conversations you pass or….

We may discuss:

  • How do you consider or remember the 1960’s?
  • Why do people make the art they do?
  • Does it matter if you like the work? Why should we look at it?
  • What do you do when the art is freaky or rude? If it provokes a response (including boredom, anger, confusion) maybe thats an experience in itself?
  • What do you see that I don’t?
  • The gallery press release tells us why they are showing this work, do we find it helpful or irrelevant?
  • What happens when we leave the exhibit?

Who am I?
I am a visual artist and set designer, with a strong interest in collaboration and engagement with intentional and
accidental audiences. I find the NYC art world fascinating, complicated, welcoming and forbidding all at once. It is best done with friends like you.

Please Note #1: The Whitney is NOT free at 4pm on Fridays. You should be ready to pay your own admission. That said, I have a membership and can get a few 1/2 price tickets. Reach out to me if you want to reserve one of these.

Please Note #2: This is a tour for art newbies to art devotees. I welcome all. I will ask you to share your thoughts and experiences, I am not lecturing you, I am not the expert here. You will be welcome to love what you see, hate it or not get it. We do this together.

Please note #3: Covid conscious masking is welcome. I might wear one myself...
