Have you ever wondered what it feels like to cross a border… simply by walking across your living room? Join us for a unique afternoon exploring Baarle-Hertog-Nassau, one of the most unusual towns in the world, famous for its mind-bending patchwork of enclaves and exclaves.
Baarle is an extraordinary jigsaw puzzle of territories:
🇳🇱 The Dutch municipality of Baarle-Nassau completely surrounds the Belgian municipality of Baarle-Hertog.
🇧🇪 In total, there are 30 separate pieces of land divided between Belgium and the Netherlands.
Some homes and shops are literally sliced in two by international borders—where your front door is determines whether you’re Dutch or Belgian!
During this guided walk (about 4km), we will:
🌍 Trace the border lines marked across streets, sidewalks, and even buildings.
🏠Discover houses that switch countries from one room to the next.
🧠Learn about the fascinating history and geography that shaped this village into the most complex border situation on Earth.
✨ Enjoy the atmosphere blending Dutch exuberance with Flemish hospitality.
After the walk, we’ll head to a very special place on the Belgian side:
🍺 De Dochter van de Korenaar Brewery
Founded in 2007 by Monique and Ronald Mengerink, this artisanal brewery has gained an international reputation for excellence, with multiple awards at Zythos and the European Beer Star. It is one of the most interesting brewery of the Belgium.
At their cozy taproom, we’ll have the chance to sample some of their acclaimed beers—like Embrasse, L’Enfant Terrible, Noblesse, and more.
đź’ˇ Good to Know:
- The walk is relaxed and suitable for everyone.
- Drinks at the brewery are at your own expense.
Come and discover a place where crossing the border is part of everyday life. This is truly one of the quirkiest and most fascinating towns you’ll ever visit.
Looking forward to exploring together!
