For the 7th event of the Films to Watch series, we're heading to Rialto De Pijp to see April, the powerful and haunting new film by Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili.
Before the screening, we’ll meet from 19:30 at the cinema bar for a drink and some conversation — this time before the film, since it starts quite late and will be intense.

🎬 About the Film
April opens with the ghostly image of a disfigured, limping body — a visual metaphor for the quiet horror of existence under a patriarchal system. We follow Nina, a gynaecologist in Georgia who secretly provides contraception and performs illegal abortions in rural areas. When a stillbirth occurs and she’s blamed, the consequences threaten her work and safety — and reveal how deeply violence against women is embedded in societal structures.
Through slow, atmospheric storytelling and haunting visuals, April captures the existential dread and physical toll of being a woman in a world that demands, controls, and punishes female bodies.

This is not an easy film — it’s harsh, visceral, and emotionally intense — but it’s also a necessary and visually stunning piece of cinema that deserves to be seen and discussed.
🎟 Please make sure to book your own ticket in advance via Rialto’s website, as screenings at De Pijp often sell out (if you have the Cineville card, it's free!).
Let us know if you're joining for the drink beforehand, the film, or both!
