Two concerts.

Two very different corners of the American underground.

And enough collective discographies to keep you occupied for several months.

For Hear Me Out #3, we cross the border to Antwerp for an exceptional double bill at Dropa House, bringing together five musicians whose work moves through free improvisation, experimental jazz, psychedelia, post-rock and several territories for which genre labels become increasingly unhelpful.

### Christina Carter & Jeffrey Alexander

The first side of the evening brings together Christina Carter and Jeffrey Alexander.

Carter is best known as a founding member of Charalambides, one of the defining groups of the American experimental underground that emerged during the 1990s.

Her solo work strips things back even further: voice, guitar and occasionally other instruments used to create music that can move between song, improvisation, repetition and something closer to private ritual.

It is sparse, patient and often strangely hypnotic.

Jeffrey Alexander comes from an equally sprawling musical universe.

Across projects including Black Forest/Black Sea, Jackie-O Motherfucker and Dire Wolves, he has spent decades moving between psychedelic rock, folk, drones and free improvisation, alongside an enormous network of collaborations, labels and underground scenes.

Together, Carter and Alexander occupy that particularly interesting place where songs slowly stop behaving like songs.

### Rempis / Adasiewicz / Corsano

The other half of the evening is rather more explosive.

Dave Rempis is one of the major reed players to emerge from Chicago’s improvised-music scene: an extraordinarily physical saxophonist and improviser whose playing can move from microscopic detail to a complete wall of sound.

Alongside him is Jason Adasiewicz, one of the most distinctive contemporary vibraphonists, whose collaborators have included many major figures of American free jazz and improvisation. He was also a regular collaborator of the late Peter Brötzmann.

And then there is Chris Corsano.

Corsano is simply one of the great experimental drummers of his generation: a player capable of turning a drum kit into something halfway between a rhythm section, a noise machine and an entire orchestra.

His list of collaborators stretches across very different musical worlds — from Björk to Bill Orcutt and countless figures in contemporary improvisation and experimental music.

The three released their first trio album, Dial Up, in 2025, and their live interplay is described as building towards a potentially “hallucinatory intensity”.

That seems like a reasonable warning.

### One night, two different kinds of intensity

This is also exactly the kind of concert Hear Me Out was created for.

On one side:
voice, guitar, psychedelia, memory, repetition and fragile improvisation.

On the other:
reeds, vibraphone, drums, free jazz and three musicians pushing each other towards the edge.

Not really the same genre.

Not really the same atmosphere.

But very much the same reason to travel to Antwerp on a Thursday night.

### Tickets

Dropa House operates a Pay What You Can system for this concert, with tickets currently available at:
€10 / €15 / €20

Doors open at 19:00 and the concerts begin at 20:00.

As always with Hear Me Out, everyone arranges their own concert ticket. RSVP’ing on Meetup does not reserve admission.

We’ll meet at Dropa House before the concert and go in together.

### About Hear Me Out

Hear Me Out is Art Food & Fun’s curated concert series.

No attempt to cover everything. No commitment to one genre. And not much interest in pointing you towards concerts you were already going to find anyway.

Instead, the idea is to select artists, scenes and musical worlds that are particularly worth discovering — especially the ones that are easy to miss if you’re not already looking in that direction.

Sometimes the recommendation is complicated.

Sometimes it is simply:
you should probably hear this.
