Unity in art refers to how the different elements within a painting work together to create a cohesive whole. This unity plays an important role in forming visually pleasing works of art that draw viewers into their scene.
We will discuss unity in art, exploring the visual elements of unity such as line, colour, texture, shape, form and space, and also look at how other design principles such as balance, pattern and variety overlap with unity.
In preparation please watch the tutorial. The session will be a discussion based around images that you bring.
Please bring images of your own, or other artists artwork, that highlight a couple of the listed elements that create unity.
Please also bring an image of a successful artwork that you think shows minimal use of the principles of unity. Just how important is unity?
