“Neurology of Being” is a concomitant exhibition to the 34th edition of “The month of photography” which is being held every year under the endorsement of the Central European House of Photography in Bratislava and Vienna. The author, Rosen Kalpachki, is a famous Bulgarian doctor who has been doing mono photography ever since he was a student. He shares that the square format that he uses, embodies his ways of perception and expression because of the resemblance it has to the opening that the surgeon sees when he is leaning over the operating table. “I am an amateur photographer who loves “making” photos the authentic way – with an analog camera, copying them myself in a dark room at home. Photos that came from film bring a different feeling precisely because of the process of preparing, planning, waiting and the result which is often accompanied by a surprise. Being close to the photo materials also brings me great pleasure. But I’m getting more and more convinced that the act of taking the picture itself is most important to me. Everything that comes after pressing the shutter can wait.”, - shares Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosen Kalpachki.
Dr. Kalpachki is a famous Bulgarian doctor who specialized neurology in Sofia, Prague, Constanta and the Royal college of London. He is chief researcher in more than 10 international clinic studies for Epilepsy, Pain, Multiple sclerosis and Stroke. He is the creator and lead of the first highly specialized stroke treatment center in Bulgaria. He is the Chairman of the Epilepsy Committee, the Multiple Sclerosis Committee and the Parkinson's Disease Committee. He is the author of monographies, books and studies in Bulgarian and foreign editions. He was voted Best Doctor in the Darik Radio polls. He is the head of the Clinic for Nervous Diseases at St. Anna Hospital in Sofia, where he created and now manages the largest stroke treatment center in Bulgaria. He defended his doctoral degree at the Medical University - Sofia, and teaches neurology, neuropsychology, geriatrics, medical ethics and general medicine at two Bulgarian universities.
