Please join us for a free brown bag concert (performed by Pittsburgh Opera's incredibly talented Resident Artists) as we also welcome many new/recent members to the Meetup group. There will also be complimentary coffee/tea/cookies and a chance to win some raffle prizes, such as tickets and CDs/DVDs/books.

Free Family-Friendly Brown Bag Concert

Enjoy an afternoon celebrating opera selections that focus on the Italian greats with a special preview of Pittsburgh Opera's upcoming production of La bohème (during March 30 - April 7 at the Benedum), plus a performance of "Bella figlia dell’amore," the famous quartet from Rigoletto, excerpts from La traviata, and more.

This free performance takes place in the George R. White studio at Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters, 2425 Liberty Avenue in the Strip. It's free and open to everyone. Bring a friend and bring a lunch! Meet the Resident Artists afterward in an informal reception with complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies.

Doors open at 11:30 AM.

Please note that the Pittsburgh Opera garage is available only for handicapped parking, by reservation. RESERVATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 4:00 PM FRIDAY, March 8th.

So whether you're curious or just looking to take a little break while shopping in the Strip, please consider stopping by Pittsburgh Opera to enjoy their resident artists as they sing classics to give guests a little taste of opera.

And if you're relatively new to Meetup, this would be a nice event to attend to meet lots of people in a very relaxed, convenient setting. Because the concert ends at 1 PM, your Saturday afternoon will still be open. Depending on the RSVPs and interests of the group, some people may decide to go out for an optional lunch or just walk around the Strip District checking out some places.

Options for Spending Time in the Strip District After the Concert

  1. A lunch option (maybe Smallman Galley http://www.smallmangalley.org near the corner of Smallman & 21st Street) within a few blocks walk from the Pittsburgh Opera location.
  2. Also nearby is the Society for Contemporary Craft (2100 Smallman Street) http://contemporarycraft.org/ which has fantastic exhibits, including "TRANSFORMATION 10: Contemporary Works in Found Materials" http://contemporarycraft.org/exhibition/transformation-10/ during September 14, 2018 - March 23, 2019 Admission is free or with a $5 suggested donation.

The Strip District is also readily accessible with PAT Buses 54, 86, 87, 88, and 91 which have stops at the corner of 25th and Liberty which is directly across from the Pittsburgh Opera location.
