Biribá Union, blends global sounds into a dynamic musical experience, takes its name from the Brazilian wild sugar-apple, symbolizing its vibrant and eclectic spirit. This electrifying ensemble features Mike Block (cello, vocals), Grammy Award-nominated hip-hop artist Christylez Bacon (beatbox, guitar, rhymes), and New York bassist Edward Perez, who has performed locally with the Silkroad Ensemble.

The trio's music draws on the freestyle theatrics of hip-hop and go-go music; the beauty of Brazilian forró and choro; American roots music; and the improvisational spontaneity of jazz. *Paul Dama, the manager of Suya Joint one of Boston's award winning west african restaurants, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on June 2025 on his way to church and is currently held in a New Hampshire detention center, despite having a pending asylum case and valid work authorization. His detention highlights broader concerns about how immigration policies affect immigrant workers and the local economy, as the restaurant is fighting to remain open and support his legal efforts.
