This Art Weekender takes us to 2 spectacular gardens just a short train journey from Paris. Monets impressionist garden at Giverny, which is spectacular all year round, looks especially beautiful from July to August when the water lilies are in full bloom and inspirational for Monets immersive waterlilly paintings which we will also visit at the Orangerie in the Tuileries Garden. Our first day, Saturday, is spent in Versailles and we then travel to Giverny early on Sunday and then the Orangerie in the Tuilleries Gardens on the Monday. The fee is £190 for the 3 days of workshops. A £75 deposit is required to reserve your place, with the final £115 due 4 weeks prior to our meetup.
During our weekend we look at photography themes in relation to gardens, Pictorialism and Impressionist approaches to photography with a series of mini projects in Paris, Giverny and Versailles. You may be interested in extending your stay either before or after our long weekend.
Accommodation: Please stay somewhere in easy reach of the Gare Saint-Lazaire. We will be travelling out from there to Giverny, a 45-60 mins train ride from central Paris, early on the Sunday. Try Airbnb OR Expedia for good deals for travel and accommodation.
Travel: Flights to Paris with Ryanair, Easyjet and OR Eurostar Train leaving from London St Pancras. NB Departure on Monday is not advised as it is a full Meetup day.

A MIDWEEK meetup to take advantage of low price Eurostar. David Hockney (b.1937) is recognised as one of Britains foremost artists. He currently has a major show at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. The Fondation is a destination in itself, particularly for its architecture and art exhibitions. An architectural masterpiece, designed by Frank Gehry it is striking and innovative. Situated in the Bois de Boulogne, the foundation offers beautiful views and access to the surrounding park, Jardin d'Acclimatation. Our meetup concentrates on developing your knowledge and understanding of Hockneys different approaches whilst visiting the Fondation. Hockney uses photography as a major creative element in his work and as a way to inform his photo realistic, as well as his semi-abstract, paintings, portraits and landscapes. Our meet-up will take place over one full day in Paris with an enthusiastic group of interested people, artists and photographers.
We meet at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and visit the Hockney show. Fondation Louis Vuitton is located in the Bois de Boulougne which is 30 mins from Gare du Nord - Eurostar. A group can meet at Gare du Nord to go to the Fondation Louis Vuitton together (to be discussed) OR meet at the Hockney show.
We will- visit the Hockney show at Foundation Louis Vuitton
- look at David Hockneys subject matter
- experiment with our iPhones/cameras to achieve multiple perspective images
- photograph Fondation Louis Vuitton by Frank Gehry
- create our own images influenced by Hockneys techniques and themes
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
- an iPhone, iPad or camera with whatever lens you have.
- After the meet-up, Apps or software for compositing different elements OR access to a laser printer OR a high street print shop/photo printer like Snappy Snaps.
Travel: You could do this as a Eurostar day trip or stay over night in Paris on the Tuesday or Wednesday. Flights to Paris with Ryanair, Easyjet OR Eurostar Train leaving from London St Pancras.
Accommodation: to be in easy reach of the Gare du Nord or Fondation Louis Vuitton. Try Airbnb OR Expedia for good deals for travel and accommodation.
Cost: The £95 fee includes- full day workshop in Paris at and around the Fondation Louis Vuitton

- There is a €16 entry fee to the Hockney exhibition
