What we’re about
Do you love art and art galleries? Would you like to know more about art made in the past and the art made today? Would you like a helping hand with visiting and understanding permanent collections and temporary exhibitions in London?
Whether your interests lie in techniques, portraits, costumes, art styles or just good stories in art, chances are these will be covered here in the course of a varied programme of online talks and occasional in person study days at the National Gallery with me or occasionally one of my fellow art historians. Look back at past events of talks I have given during lockdowns - recordings are available at £5, just get in touch with your organiser Lydia Bauman directly on this site

This is a truly magnificent exhibition about a little known period of art history, yet Siena in the first half of the 14th century - before the Black Death put an end to its great wealth and influence - was the birthplace of painting as we know it: transforming the static and formulaic Byzantine images of the Virgin and Child into gorgeous, jewel-like pictures brimming with animated figures, captivating story telling and unprecedented beauty
of design.Join me for a detailed look at the four great Sienese artists of the period : Duccio, Simone Martini and the brothers Pietro and Ambroggio Lorenzetti
who made Siena into the great centre of art long before Florence and Venice eclipsed its importance during the Renaissance. For National Gallery press release see here
As always a recording will be available for 7 days
