The National Gallery presents the first monographic exhibition in the UK dedicated to Francisco de Zurbarán, a Spanish Master of the 17th century. Confined to Seville for most of his career and therefore eclipsed by his more worldly and better known contemporaries, Velasquez and Murillo, Zurbaran astonishes by the intense spirituality and theatrical realism of his work which communicates itself powerfully to the visitors to the exhibition. Nearly fifty works, including religious masterpieces and still lifes, reconstruct his career and that of his son Juan.
