What we’re about
This group is for anyone who has always wanted to take art lessons and finally decided to do so. After working in schools for the past 30 years, and with my new Diploma of Art Therapy, I have developed a unique teaching system that is more than just learning skills. I know the health benefits of living a creative life. I help people develop their creative side so they can use art-making to learn, grow, heal, make friends and find enjoyment.
In 2009, my husband of 22 years, lost his battle with Depression. My life was turned upside down in an instant! Art became invaluable to me while I grieved and by 2016 I was ready to launch Studio Yellow. I now share what I've learned personally (and professionally) with others because I really believe Art helps to make life worth living.
While everyone is welcome, I started Studio yellow to reach out to adults who feel they really need to start 'ART' from the very beginning. My classes combine everything I know about art materials and techniques with everything I have learnt about fostering creativity from the 100s of students I have taught during my career. As a fully qualified, registered Art teacher, I make every class relaxed and informative so you will learn how to enjoy the creative process in a completely non-judgemental atmosphere. With lots of personal attention, absolute beginners feel particularly supported.
You will meet people who have always had art in their heart but have had little or no opportunity to learn how to do it. I also run sessions for those with some Art experience who are looking to reignite their confidence or work in a collaborative art space. Our members also meet up socially at Galleries and Exhibition openings and anywhere else that takes our fancy.
My classes are held in Manly West on Brisbane's beautiful bayside on weekdays and Saturdays!! I also offer Corporate workshops such as my '5 Steps to unlock Positive, Proactive and Productive teams'. A full list of classes and workshops are listed on my website (www.studioyellow.com.au).
I love changing lives for the better, through Art as I truly believe all Art is therapy. I urge you to nurture your mental health forever by starting a healthy hobby today!
I look forward to meeting you soon, Natalie

See all- Create with Air-dry CLAYManly West, Manly WestA$118.00
Everyone benefits from the tactile experience of working with clay.
This is a hands-on workshop where you will learn the basics of clay making. I’ll show you, step by step, some simple hand-building techniques, then you’ll have the opportunity to get your hands dirty. You’ll have time to slow down, relax and experiment with the medium to create some fun, creative functional or non-functional pieces. You might like to make something useful such as trinket bowls, pencil holders, tiny houses, wall pockets, or incense or candle holders, jewellery etc.Pottery is an ancient practice that has many restorative benefits and while this is not a therapy session, you are sure to find time spent manipulating clay is very therapeutic. As with all art-making, as soon as your hands get busy working with clay, your attention is diverted away from your everyday life.
It’s even okay to squash what you’ve made, at the end of the session, because it’s not the result that matters. This session is all about how playing with clay makes you feel.
As adults, making time for light-hearted, playful experiences is one of the most healing things we can do.
In this session you’ll:
- LEARN 3 hand-building techniques – Pinch, Slab and Coil.
- RELAX as you become fully engrossed in the making process.
- PLAY with the clay as you practise and build one or more pieces. I will be there to support you every step of the way.
I will show you actual examples of simple (and tasteful) hand-made objects and vessels (and demonstrate how they were made) then let you decide what you would like to create.
We will be using artist-quality air-dry clay, so your pieces will NOT need to fired (cooked) in a professional Kiln.
After majoring in Ceramics during my university days, and teaching clay work to children and teens for almost 30 years, I’m always excited to present this workshop. Complete beginners are welcome and those with prior experience will be given the freedom to create more advanced pieces.
