Hello Artists!
We are a new non profit and mission driven to promote painting as a pasttime and make sure that in a post COVID world we don’t lose community art classes. I am the teacher. My name is Cindy. Please follow us on the Instagram if you have it. @artful.lives.nlv
This class is so important for a few reasons. The main one however is that community art is at risk of fading into the past due to post COVID changes that havent been made.
We need large numbers to show up so I can apply for grants to offer donation only art classes instead of keeping art only for the talent who go for a fine arts degree at university. Since the cost of living has gotten so high no one is willing to take on the jobs offered in community centers. We will do pre and post class measures so I can collect statistics for funding and as we are still in our nascent stages we welcome anyone with interest or knowledge to help to speak up. Keeping community art alive is going to be a very big job. The biggest help you can give is to come to class and see if it’s worth keeping alive then be an advocate for culture.
With funding ALNLV is going to hire in artists in many fields and offer them a good wage. If we can pull it off we want to be a bit of a 60’s and 70’s revival of community art.
I believe its possible once I have the numbers and show the need.
In true retro fashion, the YMCA has been really supportive and have eliminated every barrier to participation to help us succeed. So you dont have to be a YMCA member to attend.
I am a mom myself and we arranged it so our class is the same day as the YMCA parents night out. So you can register your kids ahead of time with the YMCA and if you let them know you are coming to class they’re giving a $5 discount off the regular price for childcare.

Class is a work in progress until I see who shows up and what our level is. If you have painting materials- especially a table easel it would be a great help if you bring it. Otherwise I am providing everything you need to get going.
Wear something you don’t mind getting paint on, put your hair in a bun, come paint the sunset with me.
