Details

For those of you who were lucky enough to see immensely gifted young double bassist and composer Ethan Foote when he played at Casa Phoenix last fall, or for those who have been yearning to check out this wonderful house concert venue, here's your chance. Tickets sell out early, and space is limited. You must have a ticket to get in; RSVP'ing is not enough. Here's the link: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3330688

Ethan will be joined by singer (and Casa Phoenix alumna) Rochelle Rice in an ensemble with Donald Wolcott and Lucas Ashby. As usual, doors open at 6:30 for a vegetarian feast (a gift from your host), and music starts at 7:30. The Casa is a private home: leave your shoes at the door but you're welcome to BYOB inside. Tickets are $25, and will sell out. 100% of sales goes to the artists. Please text 202 270-5048 if you'd like to help cook or clean up.

Details on the individual artists:
Ethan Foote brings extraordinary gifts and thought to music. He is a composer seeking new meaning for music in the 21st century, whose work has fallen within jazz, classical, and folk idioms, both apart from and in dialogue with one another. He also writes and performs in the context of theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary art. Though he is primarily a double bassist and bass guitarist, Ethan also plays acoustic and electric six-string and 12-string guitars, and hes never quite let go of his first instrument, the cello.

Ethan was a member of the Strathmore Artist-In-Residence program in Bethesda, MD in 2017, through which he premiered several new works, including the quintet Revanche Grotesque, a string quartet, and the four-movement chamber-jazz work Suite for Septet. As a songwriter and arranger in the realm of chamber-folk, Ethan released his solo album Fields Burning in 2015, and since 2013 he has worked closely with singer-songwriter Marian McLaughlin, writing for an array of instrumental forces and performing his arrangements in several noteworthy contexts, including one of NPR Musics Tiny Desk Concerts in 2014.
